We collated a quick collection of the most commonly asked questions about brow tattooing and wrapped them up into bite sized chunks to fast track your brow tattooing knowledge!

What is Brow Tattooing

Eyebrow tattooing is the art of tattooing hyper-realistic eyebrows onto a persons face.  This can be done using a few different methods.  Traditionally, it is done with a hand tool that creates channels in the skin where pigment is deposited.  A tattooing gun or machine can also be used, but at a modified depth and using ink specifically for Cosmetic Tattooing.

Is Brow Tattooing Permanent?

Unless you got to a tattoo parlor and have permanent ink tattooed on your eyebrows, chances are, your brow tattooing is not permanent.  But it’s always advised you do your research when looking at a cosmetic tattoo artist. So how long does it last? Well we recommend getting your brows re-touched every 12-18 months.  There will still usually be some pigment left over, but not very much and not crisp.  We offer discounted touch-up prices for our clients too!

Is Brow Tattooing safe?

There’s no quick answer for this one. It comes down to your tattoo artist.  How much training do they have, is their facility clean, do they use single use instruments, have they completed infection control course, are they registered with their local council, do they have a High Risk Personal Appearance Services licence, do they have insurance?  All these things are questions you should be asking. How much does Brow Tattooing cost?

Eyebrows tattooing can vary GREATLY in price, I’ve seen as low as $150 all the way up to over $1500. Our recommendation is to go with someone who has been tattooing for a long time, not someone who is new and offering a special, there are some HORRIFIC cases of where people have gone with best price, and ultimately paid the price, check out our Brow Horror Stories blog.  We charge between $650-$750 depending on what style of tattooing you want.

How long does eyebrow tattooing take?

Again, this can vary, reports are from 30 minutes to 3 hours.  We take 1.5 hours, this includes your consultation and shape analysis, numbing and treatment.  Personally, I would be very skeptical of anywhere taking less than 1.5 hours.

How long does eyebrow tattooing last?

This is dependent on what type of brow tattooing you get, and also personal factors.  Tattooing with a machine or gun, tends to last longer than feathering. With feathering we recommend retouching the area in 12-18 months, while with Ombre it’s recommended 18-24 months.

Personal factors also come into play.  Some people skin just hold onto pigment better than others.  Using products such as retinol in your brows can also accelerate how quickly they fade, as well as sun exposure.

What types of eyebrow tattooing are there?

There are many types of brow tattooing, but the main forms are:

  • Feather touch – creating fine hair like strokes with a hand tool
  • Ombre/Powder – using a machine to fade pigment through the brows giving them a powder finish
  • Combination – Combining the best of both worlds, as the name suggestion Combination brows combines bother feather touch and ombre/powder brows for a natural but deep depth of colour.
  • Block – This is using a tattoo machine to create permanent brows using permanent ink.  Not something we suggest as shapes, styles and trends change.
