Eyebrow Tattooing: Feather VS Powder VS Ombre

Eyebrow Tattooing and all the terminology you need to know!

Cosmetic tattooing, feather touch, ombre, permanent makeup, powder, microblading, combination brows…it can get a bit confusing! Never fear! This blog will get you in the know!

What is Cosmetic Tattooing?

Cosmetic tattooing uses modified tattooing techniques to deposit pigment into areas to enhance natural beauty.  These areas include, but aren’t limited to: Eyebrows, lips, eyeliner and even eyeshadow!  Paramedical tattooig is another type of cosmetic tattooing.  Stretch mark & scar tattooing, creating areolas, and scalp micropigmentation which is very popular with men are all within this specialist field.

But as we said, we’re lifting the veil and making things less confusing, not more, so for now we’re just going to stick with eyebrow tattooing.

Feather Touch/Microblading/Micropigmentation

Feather Touch Brows, or just Feather Brows, or Feathering uses a hand tool to create small channels in the skin where pigment is placed. This results in ultra realistic fine hair strokes that blend seamlessly with the natural brows. For example, take a look at these bad boys by our tattooist Carlissa.

Ombre/Powder Brows

Just like a traditional tattoo, Ombre or Powder brows are done using a machine. However, unlike traditional tattooing, the pigment is placed much more superficially to create a soft, powder look. This results in a stronger looking brow, because who doesn’t love a power brow? This technique is good for oily skins who tend to lose some sharpness with the feather strokes. And guess what? This treatment is coming soon, our Tattoo Artist has been busily attending additional courses and training in this area to provide you with the best cosmetic tattoo option for you!

Combination Brows

As the name suggests, this is a combination of both Feather Touch & Powder brows.  Placing a few strokes at the front using the Feather Touch method, and then finishing the middle and tail of the eyebrows with Ombre/Powder technique.  It’s the best of both worlds!  The current trend is to have a softer front of the brow and then a strong tail, so this technique is perfect for that look.

Block

Block is usually done with permanent ink at a much deeper level, so just like a normal tattoo, this procedure is permanent.  We don’t recommend this type of tattooing as often the inks can turn blue or green.  Styles, and brow trends also change, so it’s good to be able to keep up with the times and you can with less permanent methods such as Feather touch.  The last thing you want is a terrible tattoo job that is irreversible!
