Let’s face it, this is a tattoo…on your FACE, this decision should not be taken lightly, we’ve seen some absolute horror stories (check out our horror blog here)
But is brow tattooing safe? Here’s a list of questions you need to be asking your tattoo artist before you make the decision to have your brows tattooed.
How much training do they have?
I know of cosmetic tattooists that have had NO training at all, yep! They looked up some videos on YouTube, ordered some stuff from Ebay and away they went! Needless to say, things didn’t end well. But unfortunately, there are currently no real regulations around cosmetic tattooing, so you need to find out how much training your potential tattooist has. Ultimately, you want them to be someone who attends regular training seminars to keep on top of their skills.
Is their facility clean?
This isn’t so much of a question, but more of an observation. If where they are practicing looks unclean or untidy, chances are there is a bit of bacteria floating around. Tattooing should be performed in sterile conditions.
Do they use single use instruments?
Single use instruments are best because they are…single use. This means no other person has ever come in contact with that equipment, it is sterile and safe!
Are they registered with their local council?
Being registered with their local council means your tattooist has had to comply with strict High Risk Personal Appearance Services standards and obtain a licence, which often includes a member of council inspecting the site to make sure it is up to scratch. A lot of people will perform this service without being registered with the Council, so make sure you check.
Have they completed an Infection Control course?
This is a requirement for being registered with the Council, so another good reason to check. Completing an Infection Control course, means the person performing the procedure knows how to minimise the risk of infection.
Do they have insurance?
Could you imagine if something did go wrong and your tattoo artist did not have insurance? It’s important to know you’re covered if god forbid something did go wrong. You get insurance for your car, house, dog, you need to make sure you’re covered for this too.
At the end of the day, when your tattoo artist is highly skilled and trained in what they do, and conducts their business in a safe, clean and professional manner, this procedure is quite safe. However, I’m sure things do happen from time to time which is why you need to do your own research and make sure where you’re going is a safe and reputable company.
