Lip injections Brisbane – 8 things you need to know

So you’re thinking about getting lip injections? But it’s hard to know where to start, so we’ve created a road map to help you get the best service every time.

1. Research lip injections in your area

By doing some research, you’ll be able to see what cosmetic clinics are near you and the quality of work they’re producing. Give them a call and get a feel for them. Ask friends and family if they’ve heard of any clinics and if they have any recommendations. Make sure to check out Instagram as they usually have lots of content there. Take a look at our Instagram to get an idea: www.instagram.com/injexclinics

2. Don’t just go for the best price of lip injections

Best price doesn’t always mean the best deal. Remember, this is your face we’re talking about here. Lip injections should be something you invest in, not something you just buy because it’s cheap. There are a lot of cosmetic clinics that will pop up and offer really cheap injectable fillers, they usually don’t last long because they use inferior products. With a recent increase in clinics we have also seen a dramatic spike in correction work! Corrections will cost you more to fix than if you had just paid a bit extra and gone with a reputable company that uses quality products.

3. Ask for an inital consultation

Most places will offer a complimentary consultation, this will help you to gather more information about the clinic and your injector and formulate a cosmetic injectable treatment plan.

4. Who’s performing the treatment?

Find out exactly who will be performing your lip injections, whether they are a Doctor or Registered Nurse really doesn’t matter, what matters is how much experience they have. If they have invested a lot of time and money into their education and training this indicates being a Cosmetic Injector is a real passion for them. Ask to see their portfolio of work most injectors will be more than happy to showcase their skills. I personally feel you also need to gel with the person. Personality clashes can make asking questions more difficult, and you need to feel comfortable with your injector.

5. Ask about the side effects of lip injections

As with most things, dermal fillers can have side effects too. Even though the product is made from natural substances found in the human body, the quality of that product differs from brand to brand.

As mentioned in point 4, experience also comes into play. Currently there are no minimum requirements to be a Cosmetic Injector apart from being a Registered Nurse. This means, a person can become an RN do a 1 or 2 day injectable course and start injecting people!! This drastically increases the risk of adverse events! If the person is not trained in how to manage complications, the effects can be devastating, including tissue death and even blindness.

So make sure your injector makes you aware of what can potentially happen and what processes and support they have if something does go wrong. We personally have ‘Adverse Events Kits’ in each injecting room. We also have a team of medical professionals who are often at the clinic or on standby who can be on site within 30 minutes.

6. Get clear about what YOU want done

Most clinics set their injectors targets which unfortunately means they might push you to have treatment you don’t need. This is something we don’t do, so you can rest assured you’re only getting what you want. So if it’s lip enhancement, anti wrinkles or a complete treatment plan you want, make sure you know what you want. If you’re unsure, you can ask the injector for recommendations. My recommendation would be to visit a clinic that doesn’t pay commissions so you know you won’t get talked into a treatment you don’t want or need. We have a HUGE gallery of before and afters that you can take a look at.

7. What products do they use for lip injections?

There are so many different types of dermal filler on the market! Unfortunately due to Australian laws and regulations, we aren’t actually allowed to publicly advertise which products we use.  Which makes it really difficult for consumers as they’re left in the dark.  So make a phone call or arrange a consultation, find out what they use and do your own research.  Don’t just get the brand name either, make sure you get the full product name.

8. Pain relief

Ask about the different types of pain relief that are offered. We have quite a few for lip fillers which include numbing cream, nerve or dental block and the filler we use contains an anesthetic as well. We know that one of the biggest things that stops people from getting lip injections is the pain associated with treatment. This is why we offer different options of pain relief for your comfort.

A lot of injectors are not trained in how to perform a nerve or dental block, so if this is something you want done, make sure you call up beforehand and double check they can do one for you. We don’t currently charge any extra for this service, but some cosmetic clinics might.

Remember…

When considering dermal filler injections you’ve got to remember they are a minor cosmetic surgery.  As such, should be carefully considered. The field of Cosmetic Medicine is still evolving, and currently there are very blurry lines in terms of treatment parameters and practices. There are no minimum training requirements for becoming a cosmetic injector.  This means someone with absolutely no training (apart from being an RN) can go straight into being an injector. Using a reputable clinic is key in ensuring you are getting the best service possible.

Over the past few years, the number of cosmetic clinics and Nurse injectors has risen dramatically. This has opened the flood gates for inferior products and cosmetic injectors with little to no experience performing these treatments. These treatments are not ‘Beauty’ treatments. They are medical procedures and expert care and attention to detail needs to be taken. If not, the side effects can be devastating.

Some clinics never see their prescribing Doctor, we’ve heard of clinics that don’t even use a prescribing Doctor! Considering a Doctor is the only person who can order products, exactly what’s being injected is a mystery.
