Marionette Lines

Marionette lines (also known as melomental folds) are vertical creases that form from the corners of the mouth down toward the chin. These lines often develop naturally with age as collagen and elastin production decline, which can contribute to the appearance of a downturned mouth even when the face is at rest.

At Injex Clinics, we provide non-surgical treatment options that may help soften the look of these lines and support volume in the lower face.

A comprehensive consultation is required to assess your health, review treatment suitability, and discuss what outcomes may be realistic for you.

Although rare, more serious complications such as vision loss, allergic reactions and infections can occur. In case of unusual or prolonged symptoms, reach out to us or your general practitioner right away for medical assistance.

Pre- and post-treatment care

Following the proper care instructions before and after your facial volume treatment can help minimise the occurrence of side effects, ensure adequate healing and support the best possible long-term outcome. Below are important guidelines:

  • Schedule your appointment at least two weeks before any major events to allow time for healing.

After your treatment

FAQs

.

Marionette lines or melomental folds are vertical creases that extend from the corners of the mouth down towards the chin, which resemble the features of marionette puppets. Like other types of wrinkles, they develop as the skin produces less collagen and elasticity over time.

These creases commonly develop as part of the natural ageing process, when the skin gradually loses collagen and elasticity. Other factors like chronic sun exposure and smoking can accelerate the formation of wrinkles and fine lines.

Non-surgical treatments for marionette lines may help restore volume in the lower face and reduce the appearance of creases around the mouth and chin. For some people, this can create smoother-looking contours and a more balanced facial appearance.

It’s important to remember that marionette lines are a natural part of ageing. While treatments can help soften their visibility, no procedure can stop the ageing process. Maintaining healthy lifestyle habits and a consistent skincare routine may also support overall skin quality over time.

The effects of marionette line treatments are temporary. On average, outcomes may last around 6 to 12 months, though this can vary for each individual. In some cases, results may last longer, depending on factors such as:

  • Skin type and age

  • Lifestyle and smoking habits

  • The specific area treated

  • Individual metabolism

Your practitioner will discuss what you can realistically expect during your consultation.

The timing for follow-up treatments will vary depending on your individual goals and how long your results are maintained. Many people choose to schedule touch-up sessions every 6 to 12 months.

It’s important to understand that treatment will not completely remove deeper lines. Instead, it may help soften their visibility and support a smoother overall appearance.

Keep in mind that this treatment may not completely erase deeper lines. At most, it can help reduce their visibility.
