Frown Lines Treatment

Frown lines, sometimes called glabellar lines, are the vertical creases that may appear between the brows. They can develop gradually as a result of repeated facial expressions, natural ageing of the skin, or external factors such as sun exposure, smoking, and environmental stressors. At Injex Clinics, your first step is a consultation with a qualified practitioner, where your concerns can be discussed and appropriate options explored together.

What to expect during your initial consultation

During your comprehensive consultation at Injex Clinics, we’ll evaluate your medical history, facial structure, skin type and overall skin health to determine the most suitable treatment options. We will also discuss potential side effects you may experience, variable healing times and address any other queries you may have to ensure you are informed before making a decision.

Please note that eligibility for treatment is determined following an in-depth consultation and facial assessment. Our team has the authority to decline treatment if deemed unsuitable, in which case we will guide you towards alternative solutions.

Results

Every person’s experience is different, and it is not possible to predict an exact outcome. Factors such as skin type, age, lifestyle, and overall health can all influence how your skin responds to any care pathway.

Some people may notice changes within a short period, while for others the process may be more gradual. In some cases, treatment may not be suitable, and your practitioner will discuss alternatives.

It is important to understand that all medical procedures carry risks, outcomes vary between individuals, and no result can ever be guaranteed.

FAQs

.

A frown line treatment is a cosmetic option which may assist in softening the appearance of static and dynamic vertical lines between the eyebrows. It involves techniques that temporarily relax targeted facial muscles, which may result in smoother appearing skin and softened creases.

Glabellar lines, or frown lines, can be treated using non-surgical cosmetic treatments that target the facial muscles responsible for the formation of wrinkles. Techniques involve relaxing these muscles to reduce the appearance of creases. Treatments are customised based on individual skin type and goals. During your initial consultation, our practitioners will explain everything you need to know about the treatment and determine if you are a suitable candidate.

During your initial consultation, our experienced practitioners will advise you on the appropriate before and aftercare steps to follow. Before treatment, you should:

  • Arrive 10 minutes early to complete paperwork
  • Try and arrive with a clean face free of makeup to minimise the risk of infection
  • Minimise the risk of bruising by avoiding anti-inflammatory, blood-thinning medications two weeks before treatment. These include aspirin, fish oil, vitamin E, ginkgo biloba, St. John’s Wort, ginseng, Ibuprofen, Advil and other NSAIDs.
  • Avoid alcohol consumption 24 hours before treatment
  • Ensure your appointment is scheduled two weeks before a special event or travelling

After your treatment, you should:

  • Avoid lying down for 4 hours
  • Avoid applying pressure to the treated area for 24 hours
  • Keep the area clean and cool
  • Avoid alcohol for 24 hours
  • Avoid extreme temperatures like saunas or spas
  • Avoid sun exposure
  • Avoid active skincare, including harsh exfoliators, retinol, vitamin C, hydroxy acids and beta hydroxy acid
  • Refrain from taking ibuprofen or Nurofen, which can increase the risk of bruising

Frown lines can be visibly reduced with cosmetic treatments that block certain nerve signals that contract muscles. While these treatments don’t permanently remove frown lines, they may help smooth the skin for three to four months. Maintenance sessions are required to help preserve the results and minimise the appearance of frown lines.

Frown lines form due to the muscles squeezing inward when making facial expressions, the natural process of ageing, which results in decreased collagen and elastin production, reduced skin laxity and environmental factors like excessive exposure to harsh UV rays. Over time, these factors cause the tissue around the muscles to develop visible creases.
