Platysma Neck Bands

Platysma neck bands, also known as platysmal neck bands, are a common sign of ageing. These vertical muscle bands, running along each side of the neck, become more pronounced over time as the body’s natural production of collagen and elastin declines, weakening the skin overlying the platysma, the most superficial layer of muscle in the face and neck.

What to expect during your initial consultation

At Injex Clinics, every treatment starts with a comprehensive and mandatory consultation. During this session, we assess your skin type, overall skin health, medical history and any medications you are taking.

We’ll determine your psychological readiness for the treatment and discuss your desired outcomes. You’ll be informed about potential side effects, recovery times and any downtime, with plenty of time to address your questions and concerns.

We’ll also take the time to explain the treatment process carefully, we want you to feel well-informed and comfortable every step of the way.

If the treatment is deemed unsuitable after a thorough assessment, we’ll recommend alternative options. Note that we may not treat individuals who are:

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Diagnosed with epilepsy, cancer, porphyria or enzyme disorders
  • Living with autoimmune disorders
  • Prone to keloid scarring
  • Allergic to hyaluronic acid, lidocaine or latex

Results of this treatment may vary among eligible candidates, as factors like body type, metabolism and lifestyle can impact its effectiveness.

FAQs

.

Platysma neck bands are two vertical strips of muscle located on either side of the neck. These muscles are part of the platysma, a thin sheet of muscle extending from the chest to the jawline. With age and repetitive muscle activity, these bands can become more pronounced as the overlying skin becomes thinner and loses its elasticity.

Our non-surgical cosmetic treatment for platysmal neck banding works by relaxing the platysma muscles, helping to soften the visibility of the vertical bands in the neck.

Our cosmetic aesthetics treatments may help address common signs of ageing, but it’s important to understand that it cannot completely reverse the natural ageing process. Our practitioners will assess your features at your initial appointment and discuss realistic, achievable outcomes with you.

Most people will not see an immediate change after treatment. The effects generally begin to appear within a few days, with the outcome usually becoming more noticeable over the following one to two weeks. The timing and degree of response vary between individuals.

The effects of treatment are temporary. For many people, results are maintained for around three to four months, although this timeframe can be shorter or longer depending on factors such as individual response, lifestyle, and muscle activity. Repeat treatments may be considered if ongoing results are desired, following consultation with your practitioner.

During your initial consultation, beforecare and aftercare steps will be explained in detail. Here are some general guidelines:

  • Arrive at the clinic at least 10 minutes early to fill out the paperwork and allow enough time for the numbing cream application to take effect.
  • Come with a clean, makeup-free neck to reduce the risk of infection.
  • To minimise bruising, avoid medications and supplements like aspirin, fish oil, vitamin E, ginkgo biloba, St. John’s Wort, ginseng and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen or Advil for two weeks before your treatment.
  • Refrain from consuming alcohol for at least 24 hours before your appointment.
  • Schedule your treatment at least two weeks ahead of any special events or travel plans to allow for optimal results and healing.

Following your platysmal neck lines treatment, be sure to:

  • Keep the area clean and cool.
  • Refrain from drinking alcohol for 24 hours.
  • Avoid lying down for four hours following the treatment.
  • Not touch or apply pressure to the treated area for 24 hours.
  • Gently apply a cold compress to the treated area in short intervals to help reduce swelling and bruising.
  • Avoid exposure to extreme heat such as hot saunas, spas or direct sunlight for two weeks.
  • Use gentle, hydrating products around the treatment site and steer clear of cosmeceutical skincare with active ingredients, including exfoliants, retinol, vitamin C and hydroxy acids, for a few days.
