Chemical Peels Before Care

To get the most out of your chemical peel treatment and reduce the risk of sensitivity or irritation, a little preparation beforehand makes a big difference. Please read the following before your appointment. Learn more about our Chemical Peel Brisbane treatments and consultation process.

How To Prepare For A Chemical Peel

Stop Active Skincare 5 To 7 Days Prior

Discontinue the use of retinols, vitamin A, AHAs, BHAs, and other exfoliating or active ingredients on the treatment area in the week leading up to your appointment. These ingredients can increase skin sensitivity and may heighten irritation when combined with a peel solution

Avoid Sun Exposure And Tanning

Minimise direct sun exposure and avoid fake tan, tanning beds, or sunbathing for at least 1 to 2 weeks before treatment. Presenting with sunburnt, tanned, or sun-damaged skin may affect how the peel performs and increase the risk of uneven results or post-inflammatory pigmentation, particularly with stronger peels like Jessner.

Do Not Wax, Thread, Or Use Hair Removal Products

Avoid waxing, threading, or depilatory creams on the treatment area for at least 5 to 7 days prior. These can compromise the skin barrier and increase sensitivity during treatment.

Arrive With Clean, Product-Free Skin

Come to your appointment with a clean face, free of makeup, SPF, and skincare products. This allows your clinician to accurately assess your skin and ensures the peel solution is applied to a clean surface.

Stay Well Hydrated

Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your appointment. Well-hydrated skin often responds better to treatment and may recover more comfortably.

Important Information Before Your Chemical Peel

Let Us Know About Any Medications Or Skin Conditions

Some medications, including Roaccutane, antibiotics, and certain prescription topicals, can affect suitability for chemical peels. If you are currently on or have recently finished Roaccutane, a waiting period may apply before treatment can proceed.

Always disclose current medications, skin conditions such as rosacea or eczema, and any history of cold sores, particularly for Jessner peels, as antiviral precautions may be recommended.

Avoid Booking Around A Special Event

Some clients experience light flaking, redness, or mild sensitivity in the days following a peel. We recommend allowing at least 7 to 10 days between your treatment and any major event to give your skin time to settle.

Do Not Book If Your Skin Is Compromised

If you are experiencing an active skin infection, open breakouts, cold sores, sunburn, or unexplained irritation on the treatment area, please reschedule your appointment. Treating compromised skin can increase the risk of adverse reactions.

Share Your Skin History At Your Consultation

If this is your first peel with us, your clinician will assess your skin and select the most appropriate peel type and strength for your skin tone, concerns, and sensitivity level. Being upfront about your skincare routine and history helps us determine the most suitable treatment approach for your skin.

If you have concerns about your skin before treatment, we recommend booking a Skin Consultation with one of our clinicians.

If your skin is inflamed, infected, sunburnt, or compromised, your appointment may need to be postponed until the skin has healed. How long before a special event should I book a chemical peel?

We generally recommend allowing at least 7 to 10 days before major events, depending on the type of peel and your skin response. Do I need a consultation before a chemical peel?
